PROVINCIAL DISCO
Provincial Disco is a Milan-based LGBTQIA+ private party founded by Ivan Bontchev, a freelance stylist, and Pier Alvise Amistani Guarda, a production manager and member of audiovisual creative collective Funclab. Its graphics reference gay porn magazines from the Eighties and Seventies.
Since its first edition in March 2019, I have curated its graphics, merchandising and social media posts. For its invitations, Provincial Disco has a provocative and ironic approach, using vintage erotic imagery as playing cards. The cards have been censored by silver scratch-off stickers, that can be removed with the use of a coin. For every edition, Provincial Disco offers to its members an exclusive mixtape by international DJs. The artworks feature images carefully selected from anonymous postings in vintage gay porn magazines.
